bridge collapse 桥梁垮塌

It is the sixth major bridge collapse¹ across the country since July last year, following one in Beijing and another in the eastern city of Hangzhou. Shoddy construction and over-loading have been blamed.

 

此次大桥垮塌事故是自去年7月以来全国范围内发生的第六起，前两次分别发生在北京和杭州。事故原因多为工程质量不合格以及超载。

 

Bridge collapse就是“桥梁垮塌”，此次事故中垮塌的部分是大桥的approach ramp（引桥横梁），导致四辆大货车plunge off the bridge（坠桥）。

 

此前发生的桥梁垮塌事故多由shoddy construction（工程质量不合格）以及over-loading（超载）导致。质量低劣的工程多被称为jerry-built project（豆腐渣工程），这里的shoddy construction也可理解为“豆腐渣工程”。
