The number of Chinese students in the US hit new high

Chinanews, Beijing, December 7 – According to the US embassy1 in China, 67,723 Chinese students went to study in the US in 2007, 8.2% higher than in 2006 and a new high. The number of American students in China in 2007 was almost 4,000, 38.8% higher than in last year.

 

The statistics2 were collected by the US embassy and the four consulates3 general in Shenyang, Chengdu, Guangzhou and Chongqing, not including the students from Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macao.

 

The number of Chinese students takes up 11.6% of the total number of foreign students in the US, only following India.

 

About 80% of Chinese students who wish to go to study in the US have got visas, and the average spending on visa application has become lower, too.
