The report was published in the renowned1 academic journal Proceedings2 of the National Academy of Science of the US on Dec. 19, saying that the operation and analysis on the pitch and tone of the Chinese language mainly depends on the right brain.
Science knowledge has told people that the two hemispheres of human brain function differently in dealing3 with signals of sounds. Normally the left hemisphere dominates in language comprehension, while the right part is good at understanding music.
The research group led by Professor Chen Lin believes Chinese language is one with its rhythm similar to music. After research they find that during the early phase of the brain's perception in language, the right part works when people hear Chinese at the moment; and then left brain begins to function when it starts to comprehend the meaning of the language.
The research may help scientists seek more effective treatment for Chinese deaf people and patients with right brain injury.
