The great discovery began in May, 1981, when many ancient bricks and some red bamboo curtain pieces were discovered in Panjia Lake. Then the archaeologists were astonished to find that six ruins were buried one over another under the ground of Kaifeng. They are Daliang of the Wei State in the Warring States Period, Bianzhou of the Tang Dynasty, Dongjing of the North Song Dynasty and two Kaifengs of the Ming and Qing dynasties.
All the six ruins were submerged in the flood waters of the Yellow River. Though most cultural relics3 must have been recovered by the survivors4, there might be something great yet to be discovered.
