Chinanews, Guangzhou, September 19 – The first psychological addict1 rehabilitation2 center for juveniles4 in China was founded on September 18 in Guangzhou Armed Police Hospital. The center receives young people with psychological addicts5 (not including drug addicts).

 

In China, psychological addict patients used to be sent to drug rehabilitation centers or even bedlams. Nowadays, psychological addicts have become very common, for many drugs, the abuse of the Internet, gambling6, sex or shopping can lead to it.

 

From 2004 to 2006, the number of tramadol abusers in Guangdong Province had increased by some 11-fold. 3.7% of the Chinese population are liquor addicts, and the proportion in northern China might be as high as 8%. Latest statistics show that 13% of juvenile3 netizens have become addicted7 to the Internet, some being only 10 years old. It is estimated that 1% - 3% of Chinese are addicted to gambling.
