The interior decoration of the National Grand Theatre of China has nearly completed, and its trial performance will be kicked off on September 25, with its constructors and the residents who used to live the site of the theatre as the first guests.

 
Chinanews, Beijing, Sept 19 – On September 25, the National Grand Theatre will finish construction and will show its debut1 performance.

 

The National Grand Theater is built in the shape of a shell. The whole building measures 46.68 meters in height and the deepest part built underground measures 32.5 meters in depth. The theater is more than 600 meters in circumference2 and surrounded by a man-made lake that covers an area of 35, 500 square meters.

 

The opera hall is the most important part inside the theater. It is painted mainly in the color of gold and can seat 2,398 people.

 

Painted in white, the concert hall gives the public an impression that it is an elegant building with a high-class taste. The music hall can seat 2,019 people and will be mainly used for performing symphonies and Chinese folk music.

 

And there is the drama hall for displaying stage plays and dramas. The hall can seat 1,035 people.

 

The National Grand Theater can provide first-class services for artists and musicians. There are five places where artists can have their rehearsals3, 32 rooms with musical instruments, and 80 dressing4 rooms. Many dressing rooms are equipped with a bathroom.

 

The National Grand Theater will become an ideal place for world-renowned artists and art troupes5 to give their performances. At the same time, China will also try to introduce its local music to the world at the country's grandest music building.

 

From September 25 to October 13, the National Grand Theater will give 23 performances for trial purposes. By then, many classical plays including Chinese opera Red Detachment of Women and Russian classical ballet Swan Lake will be shown.

 

After the trial performances, the National Grand Theater will kick off its first international performing season from the end of December this year to March next year. By then, about 183 plays will be shown at the country's newly built music building. Of the 183 plays, 30% are from other countries and 70% are domestic productions. The art troupes performing these plays will come from more than ten countries and regions, including China, Russia, the United States, France and Italy.
