Chinanews, Guangzhou, Aug 31 – At present, many countries criticize made-in-China goods. This is because they are afraid that Chinese goods might grow strong. However, it is too late for them to attack Chinese goods through demonization. If they did it twenty years ago, the demonizing methods might work. Today, however, Chinese goods won't be defeated by their demonizing methods, said Long Yongtu, Secretary-General of Boao Forum1 for Asia.

 

He made the statement in an interview given to Nanfang Metropolitan2 News on the sidelines of the World Economic Cooperation Forum.

 

At present, made-in-China goods have made a good reputation in global market. China has a very strong production capacity for shoes, textile products and microwave ovens. There is nothing for us to fear about. I don't believe that people in the world can find some goods that can replace made-in-China goods. They can buy goods from other countries. However, they can't buy goods that are both good in quality and cheap in price, as Chinese goods are. In the United States or Europe, most consumers are not affected3 by such political bias4. Earlier, the European Union imposed an import quota5 on Chinese textile products exported to Europe. However, two months later, European market encountered a severe shortage of textile products. As a result, EU Trade Commissioner6 Peter Mandelson had to lead a trade delegation7 to come to China asking China to lift the trade quotas8. This clearly shows that trade protectionism will not work, Long said.

 

Some international manufacturers try to demonize Chinese products. We won't fear it. However, from strategic point of view, we will take the matter seriously and try our best to improve the quality of our products. Meanwhile, we will work hard to set some industrial standards and make our goods measure up to the highest industrial standards. If we can reach this goal, our goods will be perfect and no one can ever blame our goods any more, Long said.
