China applies for numerous IT patents

Chinanews, Shanghai, August 30 – The Department of Science and Technology of the Ministry1 of Information Industry (MOIT) has announced that China has applied2 for more and more patents in the IT field. It is said that the number of IT patents applied for in China has increased by 23.67% every year, much faster than the annual growth of patents in general in China, which is only 18.11%. Statistics show that the patents in the IT field have taken up 32.24% of all the new patents approved, and 42% of the patents in this field are inventions.

 

“Chinese enterprises today appreciate intellectual property rights much better than they used to, and they have invested more effort on technological3 development and innovation. In 2007, the MOIT will work out specific regulations to guide enterprises’ innovative4 development and management. We’ll also set up a platform to deal with IT intellectual property right problems to aid Chinese enterprises. International cooperation will also become a major concern of the Ministry, for only through this, will China enhance its competitiveness in international intellectual property rights disputes,” said Lou Qin, Vice5 Minister of Information Industry.
