On Tuesday, the Fourth China Shanghai International Ballet Dance Competition was unveiled at the Shanghai Grand Theatre. The world's top ballet dancers all came to China to participate in the ten-day event. In the end, Chinese dancers grabbed the top prize in both men's and women's groups.
The Shanghai International Ballet Dance Competition was first held in Shanghai in 1995. Originally a local dancing competition, it has now developed to become a national-level dancing event this year as approved by the Ministry3 of Culture. It is the only top-level international dancing event in China.
Information shows that 176 dancers from 32 countries and regions participated in this year's dancing competition. After the first round of competition, only 60 candidates entered into the second round, many of whom were top prize winners in other international ballet competitions.
On Tuesday, the names of the final winners were announced. Guan Wenting and Wu Husheng of China won the highest prizes, Zhong Hua Golden Award, for both women's and men's teams, respectively. Chinese Zhang Yijing won the first prize for girl's group. A Cuban ballet dancer won the first prize for boy's group.
The judges panel was made up of renowned4 experts in the dancing circle. In addition, the organizer invited Ben Stevenson, director of the Huston Ballet Academy of the US, to be an honored guest. In fact, the invitation was initiated5 by Ben Stevenson himself, who just couldn't wait to come to Shanghai to grace the event with his presence.
