After the National Grand Theater starts its performing season, it is expected that about 500 music concerts will be played there every year, including operas, orchestra symphonies, dramas, folk music, and chamber5 music.
The National Grand Theater is located in the south of the Tian'anmen Square. It consists of three parts, an opera house, a drama hall, and a music concert hall. According to Chen, most of the concerts played in the National Grand Theater will be organized by them. The National Grand Theater does not have any plans to lease its music halls to some other music troupes6. Instead, the National Grand Theater will sign contracts with domestic or foreign musicians and music troupes on inviting7 them to perform in the theater.
“In future, the best-known Chinese and foreign musicians might perform their world premieres at the National Grand Theatre,” Chen said.
“World large art agents in London, New York and Tokyo are all considering moving their performances to Beijing. They have high expectations of us,” Chen said.
He stressed that when the theater was first designed, it positioned itself as an artistic center that was made for the public and allowed the public to enjoy top-class performances around the world.
“The most important thing is that the theater is made for the masses. The operation of the performances will follow market rules. However, ticket prices will be set at a range acceptable to the general public. In addition, ordinary people will be allowed to visit the theater and, from time to time, invited to attend music seminars organized by the theater. In these ways, we hope to establish a close tie with the general public, ”he finally concluded.
