Olympic sponsors like to invest on popular events

Chinanews, Beijing, July 7 - With the drawing near of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, Olympic sponsors1 have started their campaign. However, different events get different amount of money from sponsors.

 

For example, traditional “hot” events like high diving, gymnastics, table tennis and badminton have attracted a large number of sponsors. However, not many of them are interested in bicycle race, weightlifting and shooting.

 

Experts believe that there will be many famous stars taking part in the popular events, like Guo Jingjing, Lin Dan, and Wang Liqin, who will bring more profit to the sponsors.

 

Take the Chinese table tennis team as an example. It has so many sponsors that the players’ clothes will covered with sponsors’ trademarks2, as a joke goes.

 

When asked whether sponsors will become a burden for the Chinese athletes, the diving champion, Guo Jingjing said they will always focus on the games, but nothing else. “Even if we don’t have any sponsors at all, we will still do our best to win,” added Guo.
