Chinanews, Moscow, June 28 – The sales of Olympic Games tickets had been kicked off in Beijing now and about 25% of the tickets will be sold abroad. In 2008, about 36,000 reporters from abroad will come to Beijing to report the event, said Wang Hui, executive1 director of the Information Center at the Beijing Olympic Games Organizing Committee.

 

He disclosed2 the news when attending the “Year of China in Russia” event held in Moscow on Tuesday.

 

Wang, who is also director of the Information Office of Beijing Olympic Games Organizing Committee, said that construction ofr the Olympic Games venues3 was going on smoothly4. Most of the construction work will be completed by the end of this year, he said. In July and August, China would test the function and service quality of these venues so that when the Beijing Olympics is held, the venues can provide excellent services for athletes, coaches and sports officials around the world.

 

Although Beijing will only need 100,000 volunteers for the Olympic Games, people around the world are keen on applying for the work. In China alone, more than 530,000 people have filed their applications, Wang said.

 

She said that Beijing welcomed Russians people to come to Beijing as Olympic volunteers.

 

The Olympic publicity5 and media service work is now progressing smoothly in Beijing. The Olympic Information Center will provide round-the-clock, one-stop service for overseas media during the Games. The Chinese government is currently6 working on a regulation that sets the rules for overseas media when they conduct interviews before and during the Olympic Games. The regulation will provide useful information for 26,000 registered overseas journalists and 10,000 non-registered journalists in reporting the event.
