Chinanews, Beijing, May 16 – Pu Yi, the last emperor of the last feudal1 dynasty of Qing Dynasty, was forced to move out of the Forbidden City 82 years ago. Since then, the forbidden city has established the Palace Museum. The curator of museum, Zheng Yongmiao, said that state guests should not necessarily visited the Forbidden City directly through the Tiananmen Square. He said that such kind of convenience might harm the preservation2 of cultural relics3.

 

Zheng said that the cultural relics preserved in the Forbidden City reflect the 5,000 years of the traditional Chinese culture. Zheng is also the vice4 minister of culture.

 

Zheng launched a huge renovation5 of the Forbidden City in 2002, which became the most important one since Pu Yi left the Forbidden City. Zheng revealed that all important buildings in the Forbidden City will be opened during the Beijing Olympics started in 2008, and in future they will be renovated6 regularly after commemorating7 the 600th anniversary of the Forbidden City.

 

Currently how many cultural relics are preserved in the palace? Zheng said that experts still endeavor to get a basic knowledge of this through surveys, and he believed there were at least 1.5 million cultural relics.

 

Zheng indicated that the Palace Museum would cooperate with the British Museum and other institutions on protection of cultural relics.
