Chinanews, Beijing, May 11 – The 2007 Report on Yangtze River's Protection and Development issued by Chinese Academy of Sciences reveals that the river's ecological1 condition has deteriorated2 continuously.

 

The report emphasizes “protection” rather than “development”, which indicates that experts hope to change people's old idea on river utilization3.

 

“Most experts believe the exploitation of water resources should be undertaken in a reasonable way, and people should also consider the ecological condition around the Yangtze River region when they deepen their efforts to economic development,” Wang Shucheng, ex-minister of water resources said.

 

He also revealed that the current ecological condition of the Yellow River and Haihe River is not to be optimistic about.
