Chinanews, Changchun, April 4 - According to Jilin Provincial1 Division of Commerce, a Sino-Russian economic zone will be built there, based on the current international trade market there.

 

Jilin plays an important part in the trade between China and Russia due to its geographical2 location. In the last 3 years, Jilin-Russian trade has been growing at a rate of 18% annually3. In 2006 alone, Jilin's total export and import value to Russia was nearly $400 million. At present, there are 37 Jilin-invested enterprises in Russia, including wood processing plants, building materials plants, food factories, pharmaceutical4 factories and textile mills. There are also 18 Russian-invested enterprises in Jilin.

 

The cooperation between China and Russia will mainly be in trade, and free ports for Chinese and Russian ships will be built in Huichun and Hasar . Besides, goods and personnel from a third country will be allowed to be circulated in the two ports, too.

 

A Sino-Russian industrial zone might be established, too. The two countries are also planning to set up frontier trade zones. Changchun will start economic cooperation with Vladivostok and Jilin City will cooperate with Khabarovsk.
