Chinanews, Shenzhen, Mar1. 27 – In recent years the number of automobiles3 has increased rapidly in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province, which has caused serious traffic jam and serious pollution. Xu Zongheng, Mayor of Shenzhen, called on the people last Thursday that people to slow down the pace of buying automobiles.

 

Xu said, the number of Shenzhen’s automobiles increased by 173 thousand in 2006, and now the city has more than 1 million automobiles. Many automobiles have also caused serious pollution, and 70% of Shenzhen’s pollution has come from automobiles. The problem is that while endeavoring to promote automobile2 industry, the government should also impose high tax on petroleum5 like Singapore does, Xu said.

 

Xu also reveals that the city will improve the public transit6 system and build 150-kilometer-long elevated railways, which will greatly improve the transportation conditions in the city.
