“客套话”指为表示客气所说的话，可以翻译为“polite expressions/remarks”。“客套”指“非常正式、有礼貌的举止（very formal and polite behavior）”，也可以做动词表示“make polite remarks；exchange courtesies”，例如：“客套一番”可以翻译为“make a few polite remarks”。
