The popularity of songrong mushrooms is extending from fine dining restaurants to everyday dinner tables.

The rush to buy the popular mushrooms comes amid sharply lower prices being demanded by retailers this year.
 
While the mushrooms were retailing4 for between 550 to 800 yuan per kilogram last year, this year, songrong is being sold for as low as 70 yuan per kilogram this year in Kunming.
